IoT Hub with Zapier

Zapier acts as a hub and is based on zaps. A zap consists on a trigger and an action.

For the weather station example, I've created the zap from scratch and used a data sheet on Google Docs.

Configure

First, create a new sheet on Google Sheets and enter the names of the fields on the first row.

Go to Zapier and create a new zap.

Step 1.

Set the trigger to Webhooks > Catch Hook, and the action to Google Sheets > Create Spreadsheet Row.

Step 2.

Zapier answers with the web hook address.

Step 3.

Connect to a Google Sheets account.

Step 4.

Optionally, define a filter.

Step 5.

Select the spreadsheet and the sheet on the dropdown lists, and map the fields. To do so, Zapper needs at least one message to suggest the fields. If this error message appears, just follow the instructions.

Step 6.

Optionally, test the zap with the messages.

Step 7.

Finally, name the zap and save it to activate it.

The sketch on the LaunchPad CC3200 only needs to send a POST message with the values formatted with JSON.

Conclusion

This is the second zap I'm creating after sending an e-mail reviewed at Data and Action IoT with Xively and Zapier. I really like the simplicity and the clarity of the configuration process.

Compared with Temboo, Zapier does a fine job in managing the complexity from the configuration processes of the services it connects to.

Zapier offers a great solution with a wide range of services and pre-configured zaps.
