Extensive Tests: Results

I used the colour map provided with the Robo Explorer and memorised 11 colours, including the white.

The yellow is given colour number 1, orange 2, red 3, ..., black 8, dark gray 9, light gray A, white 0.

Learning or reading: procedure is the same. Just place the sensor 15 mm from the object.

Here are the value for the 4 channels, red, green, blue and clear, for each of the 11 colours:

In this example, the sensor is presented with the yellow square and recognises it as colour number 1.

Based on the same memorised values, I conducted various series of tests with different ambient lighting conditions and with different nuances of the colours, for example substituting a yellow box (reference) to the yellow square.

The results were always accurate, except in very rare occasions, when nuances are very close as black and dark gray. Compared with other RGB sensors, the extra four channel for clear makes a real difference.

So, in industrial parlance, this industrial colour reader is capable.
