Arduino IDE 2.0
At the end of 2021, Arduino released version 2.0 of the IDE, based on new foundations. This release relies on Eclipse Theia, an IDE of the same generation of Visual Studio Code or GitHub Atom.

Conclusion
The Arduino IDE 2.0 is a welcome update of the initial IDE.
Given the availability of the Arduino extension for Visual Studio Code, I was surprised that Arduino selected Eclipse Theia. There might have been technical and legal reasons for this choice, but users may face another battle of IDEs, which was detrimental. Let's hope the competition with PlatformIO and Visual Studio Code solutions delivers better features to the end-users. |
